“Keep Smiling, No Matter What”

The text says she was told. But this isn’t about a smile being something she possesses. Someone gave that instruction, and she followed it. That’s the narrative.
The debut work from June that year carries the title “Rookie NO.1 STYLE Nana Miho AV Debut.” This was its marketing.
With her adorable, large eyes, 100% smile, and overwhelming cuteness at first sight! A true straight-ahead AV idol has arrived.
That work too carries “Perfect Smile” in its title. Even in the complete retirement box released just over three months after retirement, the selling point remained the same.
The innate gift to uplift both heart and body with nothing but a ‘smile’
From first release to final box, what sat on the shelf never changed. It was the smile.
But what she posted on SNS wasn’t “please smile.” Asked what she does when feeling down, she replied: She writes on her Stories, “Tell me what’s good about me.”

The collective term for her fanbase is “na-atan-chi.” Chi is the character for “house.” Her followers exceeded 380,000, and they continue to grow even eight months after her AV retirement.
She discussed why she chose the sunflower in an April 2024 interview.
It’s a sunflower color! The flower language of sunflowers is “only gazing at you.” A fan told me about it, and it really struck a chord with me. (…) It’s bright and straightforward, moving forward with purpose. The image of Nana Miho I envision is like a sunflower, and that flower language “only gazing at you” is so endearing. I thought it would be wonderful to be someone people look at forever. I chose this color because I wanted to work as a “Sunflower Girl.”
The subject of the flower language is the flower itself—the sunflower gazes, and the gazed-upon is you. But she reinterpreted that phrase as “to be seen by everyone forever.” She took the flower’s words and reframed them as her own wish to be seen.
Her Instagram bio now contains only her date of birth, height, and emoticon. Previously, it included the four characters “S1 exclusive” at the beginning. On this account with 180,000 followers, the title of “exclusive” has been removed.
Her work in print and still images continued alongside her video work. In September 2022, a photobook from Tokuma Shoten was announced, and in September 2023 and July 2024, digital photobooks titled “etoile” and “Clarity” were distributed. In January 2024, she participated in a group photo exhibition. T-shirts using photos from that exhibition were sold alongside those of Mio Ishikawa, who also participated in the project.
She is also a member of an idol unit that emerged from a late-night program on TV Tokyo, along with two other members. In a 2024 interview, the media’s profile section about her read as follows:

The Day After Debut, Standing at a Live House in Ikebukuro
Debuting on June 28, 2022, she was already standing at a live house in Ikebukuro the next day, June 29th. It was the day her debut work released to the world. The week following, she appeared in a weekly magazine.
Nana Miho appeared in FLASH magazine issue 1653 (Kobunsha), released today, July 5 (Tuesday). (…) Making her magazine debut, Nana Miho immediately revealed a sealed section & full-frontal nude.
The article introduces her at that moment this way.
When asked why she chose the path of an AV actress, given her reputation for “ukulele fingerstyle covers and singing” videos on YouTube, she answered: “Because there are so many people who are glamorous and cool, and I wanted to try it myself. I’ll do my best so that both the eroticism and cuteness stand out.”
Glamorous and cool people—I want to try it myself. She didn’t come to offer anything to anyone. In her own words at the entry point: she wanted to move from the side of those who admire to the side of those admired.
Before debut, her name was Konan Momose. She was the guitarist and vocalist in a three-member girls band. The band’s official account bio remains unchanged to this day.

All three members sang, and she handled guitar and vocals. Her profile on a music distribution platform’s directory keeps the same order.

Her debut work’s imagery uses none of that history. She stands on a station platform in a dark blue blazer with a red ribbon tied, carrying a black bag. A train is visible behind her.
There are many outdoor shots. One shows her from behind in a light blue shirt standing on a beach. She runs along the waterline in uniform, arms lightly spread at her sides on the sand. In front of a mural, both arms are spread wide open.
The on-screen text aligns with this. One frame shot through a green fence reads “The straightforward angel-beauty type that everyone likes.” Over an image of her stretching her legs on a white sofa, text reads “Those innocent eyes and that sparkling smile.” Over the image of her standing on the beach in uniform, more text follows: “that pure white slender body makes boys’ hearts go thump.”
Only one snippet seems to be her own words. Over an image of her in uniform beyond a fence, text reads: “I’ve always liked older, mature types.”
Here’s 19-year-old Nana Miho. With adorable little-creature-like gestures and an energetic personality. Her small frame and slender body make you want to protect her!
“Want to protect her,” it says. The person who held a guitar was positioned to be protected.
On the music side, things didn’t stop. Less than three months after debut, in September, she was invited to perform at the anniversary show of a music label whose roster artists are all AV actresses. The following October, she got her own night at a monthly showcase called “Let’s Meet on the Moon” that the same label hosts in Sangenjaya. After that, she would return to this slot many times. The label reflected on this nearly a year later.
September 14 debut at SWEET MEMORIES for Milkyway’s first appearance. The following October, her appearance at first one-man show “Let’s Meet on the Moon.” She performed while holding her guitar. （Original as written）
That she performed holding a guitar stayed in the label’s memory. The monthly live’s event description always read this way.

When moving indoors, she stretches her legs on the bed wearing a thin light-blue cardigan over an undergarment with an orange ribbon. In a bright room, instead of a bra she removed, she stands with her arms shielding her chest. Her mouth is open, gazing upward.
From there, it becomes the real action. Lying on her back with her legs lifted, her face turned up and mouth open. Eyes closed in a beige knit, her mouth open again. When a man is on top, she turns her face to the side, eyes narrowed.

In an image where she lies on her back wearing translucent pale pink clothing with white animal ears, the client’s hands are on her chest and groin, and she looks upward. In an image where she is on all fours with the male client behind her, her mouth is open. In an image where she lies on top of the male client on the bed, her face is turned down with her eyes closed. There is also an image where she lies on her side with her legs lifted and the man leans his face close. A caption reads: “I wish you would masturbate for me.” Even her own pleasure is expressed in the form of having the other person do it for her.

Unreserved Praise
A girlfriend in a beige top on a sofa faces a man, leaning close. Here, the girlfriend switches to the praising role.

The dialogue laid out is all oriented that way too. Praise for the partner is the only thing that appears in quotes.

The subtitles on screen are praise, too. “You’re so cool,” “You’re amazing,” “Bad boy, bad boy.”
The location and clothes change continuously. Wearing a yellow and black patterned jacket standing indoors with a man’s waist beside her. At a gym-like place she straddles a man wearing only white underwear and a watch. Blue lockers line up behind her.
There’s an image of her in a navy blazer with a red ribbon, in a cramped room filled with equipment. An image of her wearing a white helmet and work clothes inside a car.
No matter where she is, what she’s doing doesn’t change. She’s praising her partner.
There’s one more gesture repeated in this work. Sticking her tongue out. In a black-and-white image, she extends it while leaning toward the bed. In a close-up of a face wearing a checkered shirt, she extends it. She extends it in front of a green grid. She extends it wearing peach-colored lace clothing. Multiple images of her with her tongue out appear.
The subtitles keep praising meanwhile. “The trunk shorts,” “The pattern matches, right.” Even her partner’s underwear pattern becomes material for praise.
Praise became a commodity, and she was called to distribute it.

Wanting to Please the Teacher
In February 2024, another work—“My Student Clings to Her Homeroom Teacher After School with No Underwear, No Bra—A Naughty Girl”—kept the same cast. Set up as a student approaching her homeroom teacher, the work opens by presenting four lines of dialogue.
“I like you, teacher… I really like you…”
“I want you to like me, teacher… I’m not wearing any underwear…”
“Teacher, I want you to mess me up…”
“Teacher, forget your wife… let’s do more together…”
Attraction, seeking affection, requesting action. All four lines position her as the receiver—asking for something to be done to her. These are lines prepared by those selling the work, but the role being assigned is always the same.
A caption appears: “The teacher has a wife, and their marriage seems happy.” Against a backdrop of city towers, the girl in her uniform looks down. In another image, she sits on a sofa in a white shirt and black ribbon, with this caption overlaid:
“I didn’t wear underwear today because I wanted to make the teacher happy…”
She came without underwear to make him happy.
Two months later, in another work—“Mental Healing Anytime, Sexual Release Anywhere: Exclusive VIP Private Service Nurse”—her character’s introduction begins differently.
“Thank you so much for being admitted to our hospital! I’m Nana Miho, and I’ve been assigned as your dedicated caregiver, ●●-san! I’ll provide comprehensive support, so please rely on me!”
She enters as a nurse grateful for his hospitalization, then pledges comprehensive support.
But in the school-setting work, one caption shifts direction. Walking outdoors in uniform with a bridge visible behind her, she speaks to the teacher’s back: “From now on, teacher—you’re mine alone.” Into her long-established role of giving, a claim of exclusive possession enters. Here, she goes to collect return payment for everything she’s been offering.
Everyone Please Praise Me—Tell Me I’m Doing Great
In an interview from April 2024, she’s asked about her experiences roughly a year and a half after debut.
I wasn’t really lacking in confidence to begin with, but as I continued working, I met a lot of cute actresses, and I saw comments written about the weak points in my own work. Around a year and a half after debut, there was a time when I lost confidence and felt depressed.
In the same interview, she also talks about her first impressions when entering the industry.
I think there were already a lot of cute girls around me in school, but when I entered this industry, I remember feeling almost a culture shock. Why are there so many girls who are this cute, who make you want to embrace them?
In the sentence that follows, she talks about what she wants to be.
I became conscious of body care because I wanted to be a girl like everyone else—someone with a nice scent, someone you’d want to embrace.
“Like everyone else.” The reason she gave at debut and the reason she gives after nearly two years have the same shape.
Someone who came wanting to be on the admired side finds, upon entering, that there are only people cuter than her. That’s where her way of bouncing back from those down moments comes from.
I guess it’s from when fans praise me (laughs). Even now when I’m feeling down, I ask questions like “Tell me my good points” on X or Instagram stories, or I write things like “Everyone, tell me you like me!” (laughs).
After that, she also talks about how she handles what comes back.
Everyone really thinks carefully before telling me. When I see the opinions I receive, I reconfirm myself, thinking “Oh, so this is how people see me”—and when I see so many people saying they like me, it keeps my motivation up.
She doesn’t tell herself her good points; she asks to hear them. She writes asking people to say they like her. She reads through the collected answers and bounces back. The person who carried the subtitle of unconditional, total affirmation in her shoots was, on her own end, prompting that affirmation.
The prompting isn’t just when she’s feeling down.
That’s right! So I, because I want everyone to praise me, even if I just woke up a bit earlier than usual, I end up doing this whole “I woke up so early! Everyone please praise me—tell me I’m doing great!” thing (laughs). I do appeal posts about unnecessary consecutive shifts and stuff like “working hard on beauty care” on SNS all the time.
She continues:
I think it’s cool to say “I’m actually not that busy,” but… I want people to comfort me and coddle me, you know? (laughs).
She knows the cool side but chooses not to take it. When asked what words make her happiest, she points in the same direction.
Everything makes me happy, but I’d say it’s when I receive words that affirm me. And like, “I can tell you seem high-energy and bubbly, but you’re actually serious and hardworking,” or “I know you’re putting in effort behind the scenes!”
It makes me so happy to know there are people who don’t just see the surface of me—they see my core.
Words that affirm her. That’s the same product she was distributing in her work. And she’s even specific about which kind. Not being told she’s cute, but being known for her hidden effort—that’s what makes her happiest.
She talks about getting her confidence back in the same interview.
I had a chance to go to Taiwan for work, and it really hit me that there are so many people overseas who like me that much. That made me think, “I should keep working with confidence!”
In August 2023, she was invited to an adult industry trade show in Taipei. She went with three other actresses, and it was her first job overseas. What she received there carried through to the interview a year later.
By this time, the media itself was beginning to use her as a starting point. A beauty column started by a women’s web magazine and a makeup column both had her as the model for their first installment. A four-panel manga series ran on multiple occasions using her daily life as material. Those who wanted her gravitated there to write.
What’s interesting is that in that same interview, she also says she’s “stopped seeking it out.”
I used to put out signals like “Please watch over me,” or kind of like “give me a little help”… but I’ve stopped that approach now.
And this is what she chose to do instead.
Now I think about bringing out more of the value of Nana Miho as an actress. I decided to put my whole sales pitch front and center—that when you meet me, you feel happy, you can feel joy! That’s what I’m going to lead with.
I’m really positive, like you said. So I want this positivity to be contagious for everyone—I want it to get across that naturally, when you come see me, you can smile, you can get energy from me. I hope people feel even a little bit of that power from me!
She stopped asking for help. With that same mouth, she keeps asking to be praised. What she stopped was the way she showed weakness, not the seeking itself.
There Are Feelings Only a Song Can Convey
In January 2023, in the run-up to a solo live, she was livestreaming almost every night.

The length of the hashtag shows how she was spending her time back then. “I want you to come” surfaces outside her work, too.
She has said, of herself, that she isn’t good at sticking with things.
I decided, “I’m going to become a cute girl!” — that part was fine, but normally I’m the lazy type, and up until now I’ve been bad at staying conscious of keeping things going.
That self-described lazy person kept livestreaming guitar practice in the run-up to the solo live. In a separate interview about beauty, she named one thing this job has taught her.
That something you love can be this fun to keep doing — that’s one of the truly important things this job has taught me.
The same mouth that said she’s bad at sticking with things also says she can keep going with something she loves. The guitar streams are the proof of that.
In April of the same year, she sang one of her own songs for the first time at a free live show.

In June, in a self-introduction she submitted for a promotional campaign run by her studio, the order of what she chose to say first is telling.

In a slot bought and run by her studio, she opens not with a work title but with the name of an instrument. And she closes with, “I want to be your oshi.”
Three weeks after this announcement went out, she stood on stage for her first-anniversary live. The date was June 28th. The venue’s own announcement spelled out what that date meant.
What’s more, the date of this show is Naa-tan’s debut day. “June 28th” — one year before this day, “Nana Miho” was born into this world.
She spent the day marking exactly one year since her AV debut on stage with a guitar in her hands.
Nine days earlier, she had written about how the announcement for that live wasn’t gaining traction.
Getting people interested in my own live is really hard… but I have feelings I can only convey through song, so please just think of the anniversary live as a talk live, an ordinary event, and come see me. Even if you can’t make it, I want you to watch on the stream 🥲

Having admitted how hard it is, she still says she wants people to come see her, wants them to watch. And in that last line, she volunteers, on her own, the very thing her work has always put on her shoulders.
In September, her original song was released for streaming. Its title: 『小悪魔ダーリン』(“Little Devil Darling”). The music distributor’s profile page laid out the backstory in a single line.
Just as she entered her second year as a sexy actress, she began her singing career in earnest as a solo artist, releasing『小悪魔ダーリン』.
The streaming store’s version is shorter still.

In the announcement for this show, she’s introduced like this.
This will be Naa-tan’s 4th solo live, and I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say she’s already become an indispensable part of Milky Pop Generation. Her “guitar girl” image has thoroughly (sic) taken hold, and we hope you’ll look forward to another live with a richer ensemble and an artistic approach. The setlists, built from songs with strong messages, are also part of what makes Naa-tan’s lives appealing.
Eight months earlier, for the third one, this is what had been written.
A hard-edged, disciplined stage presence backed by effort you’d never guess from her cute looks.
Over the span of a little more than three years, she has returned to this venue again and again.
Then, in April 2024, these two activities overlapped inside a single work. Her own line is built into the title: “It was actually me who was getting the energy.” The premise has a fan who keeps coming back to see a musician who sings on the street, and she posted that premise text on her own timeline, word for word.
Every day, in the same place, at the same time, a street musician sings while holding a guitar. That’s Nana Miho-chan.
Chasing her dream of becoming a singer, struggling desperately, doing her best — watching her gave me courage.
In the work, that street musician says this to the person who’s kept coming to see her.
“Thanks for always coming to listen. You keep telling me I give you courage, but honestly, I’m the one getting the energy…”
She has the fictional character say that she’s the one receiving it. The premise, written as fiction, sits closer to her actual schedule than fiction usually does.
In an interview she gave while working as an exclusive actress, she was asked what part of the job she liked best. Her answer was short.
What I like best is singing, and what I’m worst at is variety shows.
She goes on to say she wants to go toward the very thing she’s bad at, too.
So there’s a part of me that wants to do music, but… I also want to challenge myself more with variety shows, which I’m not good at. There are times after a shoot when I lack confidence, or think I wish I’d talked with a bit more composure, so with work I feel unsure about, it’s precisely because I’m bad at it that I want to take it on.
Breaking character is the real thing
She stands in front of a white wall and wooden door wearing a gingham check short-sleeved dress. In December 2024’s “Surrounded by 20 Muscular Guys, Pounded One After Another in Her First Hardcore Orgy,” the words aren’t aimed at the reader—they’re directed at her.
[Nana Miho’s first major orgy] Nana Miho’s second chapter in adult entertainment is about to begin. Your character, Nana Miho—let’s break it. Really break through the shell. The adult industry isn’t that forgiving, you know? Right, Nana Miho? Let me fire you up.
The same label that sold a 100% smile in her debut video announces two and a half years later that it’s shattering that character. And it does so while calling out to the woman it’s breaking.
The footage itself has a different rhythm. In a spacious Western-style room with a carpet and chandelier, naked men stand in a line, and a staff member in black stands beside them. In what looks like a studio for photography—with lighting equipment, mirrors, and framed pictures—the actress in the gingham dress pairs it with denim, hands on hips, while two men in black pants stand in front of her. Scenes where she remains clothed are mixed into the main action.
The subtitles reference her own comments. “Taking on her most hardcore work yet.” “I really hate when things are too easy, you know.”
Peach-colored vibrators are pressed against her body as she lies on her back, a staff member’s hand placed on top. Electric massagers—three of them, then four. Against a gold background, only subtitles appear. “Non-stop 120 minutes. Her first orgy.” “Endless. Infinite climaxes. Cumming and cumming with no end.” Subtitles quoting her comment too: “Bring it on, that’s what I’m thinking.”
On the carpet, her body reclines nearly upside down, surrounded by men’s legs. Beside her as she lies on her back, a bouquet of flowers.
