Ichika Matsumoto: Seven Years Without Looking Away From the Lens

In a park in September 2019, a pair of navy knee socks and brown loafers stands still. Summer light blows out the tactile paving on the ground. A nineteen-year-old in a white short-sleeved shirt and a necktie narrows her eyes in front of a wide tree trunk. Her mouth stays closed. A caption runs along the bottom of the frame: “An ordinary girl who works at a ramen shop.”

Seven years later, the figure in the gymnasium has a short blonde bob. She wears a boy’s blazer, and even the knot of the tie is a man’s. She plays the one who steps between a classmate and the fist coming at him, and nobody yet knows what is hidden under that uniform.

In between, the hair color changed, the length changed, and the contract was reassembled three times. Even the gender of her roles changed. Ichika Matsumoto debuted in September 2019 on SOD Create’s Seishun Jidai label and was out of SOD in four months. After three and a half years freelance came the Honnaka and Dass! dual exclusive in November 2023, and a MOODYZ exclusive from the latter half of 2025.

Cup size splits by source: FANZA registers a C, the official bio says “B83 (A cup).” She has told an interviewer she wants to make lingerie for women with small busts, so this article takes the A she claims herself. Cheerleading, then basketball. She chose the side that stands in front of people from elementary school, and she was not good at the sport. She keeps the three years of being in a basketball club without being able to dribble as a joke about herself. Being there mattered more to her than being good.

Before AV she worked as a swimwear model under a different name. She learned the job of being photographed before she moved to taking her clothes off. By the time the caption “Hobby: cameras” appears in her debut, she had already been shot many times. She knew the tools on the shooting side and the procedure on the shot side.

Who gets credited as the trigger depends on the source. The official bio names the actress Kano Mikoshi; an interview she gave later names Mihiro. What both agree on is the order — something she saw on television turned her attention toward the set itself.

The Debut Caption Reads “Hobby: Cameras”

September 26, 2019, SOD Create. The label is Seishun Jidai, the director Kaoru. Of the four works SOD shot her for, this is the earliest to be released.

Here is how the title was sold in 2019.

“A first orgasm,” “a first squirt.” Debut releases lining up firsts is nothing unusual. What is on screen, though, sits slightly to one side of that copy.

The opening is outdoors. Swings and a horizontal bar in a park. A wide tree trunk. Tactile paving on the sidewalk. The sunlight is strong enough that every shadow has a hard edge. A girl in uniform walks through it and stops in front of the tree.

Captions line up. “Seishun Jidai, a debut.” “An ordinary girl who works at a ramen shop.” “Nineteen.” And then two lines of a different color slip in.

Hobby: cameras She likes taking pictures

In the same scene as those two lines, both hands hold up a DSLR. The hands carrying the tools of the shooting side are on screen right before she becomes the one being shot. Her own account of why she entered the industry runs the same direction: in an interview, she says she “got curious about how the shoots actually worked.”

The captions that follow — “there’s still so much I don’t understand,” “how far I can get” — go back to the language of production.

What does not go back is the face. When she narrows her eyes in front of the tree, the corners of her mouth do not move. She is smiling with her mouth shut. The cut where she folds her hands on a table, tucks her chin and looks straight ahead is the same face. Against the night streets, teeth finally show. A nineteen-year-old is deciding where to open her expression and where to close it.

There is a face with the eyes closed during a kiss with an older man. There is a back walking alone up a residential slope. The face of someone who has not handed over anything yet belongs to this one title.

Her work at SOD ended after five titles: four on Seishun Jidai, with one SODVR release in between. The fourth carries the word “final chapter” in its name.

Eight days earlier she had also shot a VR piece locked in a storeroom with an underclassman. The word “final chapter” is a boundary drawn from the label’s side. From hers, nothing had started yet.

The Month She Left SOD, She Scattered Across Labels She Didn’t Know

In February 2020 the contract lapsed and she went freelance. Within the same month she stood on five sets that shared neither budget nor color: Amaenbo, First Star Neo, TMA, Catherine, and Minna no Kikatan. The release dates cluster into the ten days from February 20 to February 29.

Nothing about them lines up. The 20th is a father-and-daughter piece, the 27th a beautiful-girl piece built around a count of days, the 28th brings a sibling incest piece and a VR little-sister piece on the same day, and the 29th a drama about a stepfather. A nineteen-year-old who had been protected by an exclusive contract was on every shelf within a month.

There is no pattern to the arrangement. If there is one, it is that each of them is a woman in the same house. A daughter, a sister, a stepdaughter. Her face just before she turned twenty was being put to identical use by every company. The setup introduced in her debut as “an ordinary girl” gets recycled straight through.

The results came fast. Number one in FANZA’s annual actress ranking for 2020. Number one again for the first half of 2021. That same year she took Best Actress at the Aodomy Awards, run by Shueisha’s Weekly Playboy — a prize awarded from outside the industry. A little over a year from debut to the top.

After that the volume climbed. The official bio records her third year this way.

“By her third year her filmography had passed 300 titles, establishing an unshakable position as a ranking regular.”

Four titles under an exclusive contract became more than three hundred in three years. In terms of sheer circulation of her name, this stretch is the peak. A small, young-looking face and a way of never turning work down, both true at once.

Look at what the titles actually were, and it becomes clear what each company was buying. BAZOOKA called her in for schoolgirl projects twice — the first a creampie piece with a complicated setup, the second built around miniskirts and thongs. Noskins put her opposite a paying client. Crystal Next gave her “the sister with a demon libido who fucks like a monkey in silence the moment your eyes meet.” MAXING released two on the same day in May 2023: one a college student’s first paid date, the other “the girl I picked up turned out to be a smart-mouthed brat and reverse-raped me like something out of a manga.”

Both of those were shot by Kaoru. The director who shot her debut in 2019 was reshooting the same person as a brat four years later.

For a sense of the pace, TMA put out a four-hour best-of in August 2020. Eleven months after her debut, there was already enough material to compile.

Her chest became product too. An August 2022 title runs “I padded my chest and lived as an F cup, and a big-tits guy became my boyfriend” — an F-cup premise laid over a body she keeps saying is an A. And the circulation did not stop once she was exclusive. In May 2024, during the Honnaka and Dass! dual exclusive, she appears on Vivian’s tenth-anniversary best-of. What exclusivity normally means is one company holding you alone; in her case she was in a position to lend her name to another label’s commemorative release.

The title from this stretch that stuck on quality rather than quantity is the Honnaka release of February 2021, directed by Naoto Masaki. The description reads:

Asked about work, this is the answer.

She is aware she is running it on herself. And then she keeps going.

“I analyze what was bad about it in my head and settle it inside myself.”

“Once you’ve become an actress, I hate the idea that there’s something others can do and I can’t.”

The competitiveness comes out in specifics. She skips the feeling and speaks in procedure. Even telling the story of a fan saying “I’m still alive thanks to you, Icchan,” she lands on “it made me happy that I can change someone’s life.” What she receives gets recounted as her own effect.

That same person stops short when the subject turns to days off.

“I watch Nausicaä and go, the Ohmu are so nice, so nice, and just space out without thinking about anything.”

Someone who blanks out watching the Ohmu hates having something on set that others can do and she can’t. Her answer to what color she’d compare herself to comes from that side too.

“Pale yellow. It seems like a gentle color. I want to become a person like a sunny spot, warm like that, and live a warm life.”

Her list of things she wants to do mixes the set with everything outside it. “I want to shoot something underwater. Skin with water running down it is beautiful, isn’t it.” And: “I want to make lingerie for women with small busts! Producing something cute that also lifts the chest, by the time I’m thirty — that’s the goal.” She is trying to turn what troubled her about her own body into a product for other people.

Only when she is asked about her goal as an actress does the unit change.

“I want to keep being an actress no matter how old I get. Even if things happen in my private life, I want to keep going!”

“I want to still be active at around 120, and see off everyone who’s taking care of me now as they become stars, as an actress.”

It reads like a line you could take as a joke, until you notice what sits right before it: “I love being on set, so I want everyone to keep looking after me.” She is restating the wish to stay on set in units of a lifespan.

Her actual speaking voice, incidentally, can be checked on YouTube. Any of the 78 videos will do. How the voice sold as “whispering in your ear” behaves when she is being thrown into a stunt comes across faster there.

There are two shots where she appears on the screen of a phone held in the cameraman’s hand. A screen filming the thing that is filming sets the distance of this piece. The cousin knows the camera is there and lets it run anyway.

The stretch after she changes into a yukata is long. White with purple flowers scattered across it, and she rolls onto the tatami without the sash coming loose. There is also a cut of her just standing next to him in a yellow T-shirt, laughing. The switch between the everyday face and the face holding control is fast. Because it is fast, the one being held can’t keep up.

An Actress Ordered to Abstain for a Month, Laughing Behind Her Hand in a Park

November 10, 2023, Dass!, directed by ZAMPA. The first title after the dual exclusive, with the announcement text carried straight into the front of the work.

Three days pass and the gauge does not go back. It stays fixed at 10, turned into the side that wants him any time.

Since joining MOODYZ, solo titles have lined up at roughly one a month. January 2026 brought a close-quarters piece where fifteen loads get drawn out of him with his girlfriend nearby, April a cosplayer at an offline orgy, May a non-stop run against ten men, July the role of a wife’s best friend. The setup changes every time; her position does not. She is always standing on the side that breaks the other person’s reason first.

The price shifted along the way too. Only the maid title, her first after the move, is 500 yen; every solo release from 2026 onward is 2,180. A title by someone under contract stopped sitting on the same shelf as the freelance-era projects.

For the April cosplayer piece, these are the lines she was handed.

What Happens Outside the Camera

Her YouTube channel has 119,000 subscribers and 78 videos. The description reads:

She names herself as the one being thrown around. Most recently she sat with Shimiken and Hiroyuki Miyasako for “Technobreak Season 0” and ended up on the side taking the audition. At a pace of fifteen new videos in three months, she keeps making occasions to stand next to people from outside the AV industry.

Line up the video titles and the range of the stunts shows. “Even the gods are charmed?! My resolution for 2026 at the first shrine visit… or so I thought!” “If I don’t ◯◯ for 24 hours… does that mean it’s over?” “The adult version of a graduation speech went too far.” The one pulling the biggest numbers is simply “Icchan, I’ve decided.” What she decided is withheld. 78,000 people came to open it anyway.

The Shorts headlines are more direct. “Apparently there’s an angel who’ll whisper ‘you’re so weeeak ♡’ in your ear.” The “weeeak” she had the little sister say in a title, she has carried back to her own channel as a headline. “#BeautifulFromEveryAngle” is a tag she named herself with too. The “little devil” and “brat” that got stuck on her from the product side are now in her own hands.

There is also a Short called “An unforgivable, completely forgivable way of apologizing!!” Someone who hates having something on set that others can do and she can’t sells the face of apologizing on YouTube.

Her Instagram bio is two lines. “AdAchil / fleuЯR” — the agency and the idol unit she belongs to. Only 40 posts, and 165,000 followers regardless. On X, “I guess I just have to show my panties…?” pulls over twenty million impressions, while Instagram barely moves. She chooses where to put things.

Even on X what she writes is short. “I’m fully dressed, see!!” ”◯-rection challenge!! Doing it in Akiba!!” Even an event announcement is only that. Someone who finished her self-introduction in nine characters finishes her announcements in nine too. The profile field holding one line about her debut date is probably the same reason.

TikTok has only a handful of posts. The one drawing attention among those few is “Cute from every angle?” Showing herself from all sides is something she considers her selling point.

Work outside AV runs in parallel. The image-video label REbecca has been putting out a series named directly after her, “Ichika,” since July 2020, reaching a sixth volume in February 2026. The subtitles run “Okinawa Maiden Seduction Diary,” “Whimsical Honeymoon,” “Lovely◆freedom,” “Little Devil Hooked,” “Fuchoufugetsu — Autumn Chapter,” and “Amami Oshima Dream Guide.” It began in Okinawa and came back to Amami six years later.

Here is how REbecca put it for the second volume.

Someone counted in creampies is trying to hand out the feeling of a trip. The fact that a series where she stays dressed has run for six years explains the range of that face better than anything.

Then on March 27, 2026, Takeshobo published the photo book libido. A4, one hundred pages, 4,400 yen. The publisher’s copy reads:
