When something embarrassing is done to me, I somehow end up laughing.

The same work’s description carries almost the same line. Laughter was one of the selling points chosen when she was marketed.

In the same work’s footage, her legs are spread open on a sofa, a man’s hand at her crotch. Her upper body is still in a white top. Her face is turned to the right, mouth open, laughing. A red cushion is visible in frame.

There was a second selling point, and this one made it into the titles: the word for “beautiful girl”. Eleven titles carried the word from 2017 through 2020, and none did after that.

Over the nine years since, the categories she gets filed under change again and again. In the footage under whichever label comes next, the same face turns up.

The field currently registered on DMM reads “Web surfing (Wi-Fi is life), idol research.” Only the order has swapped — the same two things have stayed there for nine years.

One distinction is worth drawing here. What came out in January 2017 was an image video — the description ends with the note “※This work is an image video.” Her debut as an AV actress came on March 16. Some articles list her debut year as January, but that’s a different type of release.

Doing the Rounds of Every Bubble Tea Shop

In nine years, there is only one recorded instance of Tsumugi Akari talking about herself. It’s an interview published on December 27, 2019, and the conversation was mostly about drinks.

I’m making the rounds of 40 bubble tea shops in Japan, and I want to drink my way through every single one!

She says she wants to drink her way through all of them — not that she wants to find a good shop. The goal isn’t landing on one great find; it’s going to every single one.

There’s a condition attached to how she makes the rounds.

Because I want to compare shops, I try to always order the same thing — brown sugar tapioca milk tea.

Because she wants to compare, she fixes one variable. Across 40 shops, the order never changes. Choose by mood each time, and there’s no way to tell whether a good day came from the shop or from what she happened to order. She avoids that.

She keeps records, too. Partway through the interview, she takes out her phone.

Mind if I check my phone notes for a second? (laughs) I keep notes on every shop I’ve been to, along with a rating. There’s a checklist too.

The rating and the checklist are kept separate. Tracking whether she’s been to a shop is split from recording how it was. She has a table of 40 shops on hand, and without checking it, she can’t say where any one of them ranks.

The rating criteria are fixed as well: flavor strength, pearl size, and how the pearls are cooked. That last one runs a whole range, she says — from so soft you don’t need to chew down to pearls with real bite left in them. What she likes is the big, soft kind, and she has her own name for it: “yawa-mochi-kei,” the soft-and-chewy type. It’s the way someone talks when they’ve put a name to their own taste.

She also says what she wants to do next.

I want to make the rounds of every bubble tea shop in Tokyo! Bubble tea is having a boom right now, so I think a lot of these shops are going to disappear before long…

A little of the conversation strays from drinks. One name comes up when the talk turns to idols she likes.

I’ve liked Kojiharu from AKB48 for a long time, and I take a lot of cues from her.

Someone online once wrote that I was “Kojiharu without the boobs.” I don’t know if I’m allowed to just take that at face value and be happy about it… (laughs)

Being told she resembles someone she admires, and not knowing whether the comment was meant as a compliment, sit inside the same sentence. It feels like something she’s kept in storage rather than fully worked through.

Her taste in music carries the same kind of persistence.

I’ve been listening for more than 10 years now, so I can mostly tell what they’re saying.

This is about Korean. She says that after listening for more than 10 years, she came to understand it. She doesn’t say she studied it. Sticking with the same thing for a long time is what expanded what she can do.

Who she likes has changed too.

I used to be a huge AKB48 fan. Back then I liked her face, but now I like her sense of style.

When you pick one of her titles, what will you go by — the category stamped on the title? Or the fact that she’s someone who compares 40 shops by ordering the same thing every time?

It Started Out Named “Miracle”

She’s crouched with her knees together in front of a white wooden bench set on the grass. Her mouth is open, laughing, eyes turned toward the camera. Her name appears in white letters at the bottom of the frame. This is one of the earlier frames in her debut work.

The title is Newcomer FIRST IMPRESSION 113: Miracle. The word “miracle” runs through three more titles that same year: April’s The Miracle Beautiful Girl’s Embarrassed Climax, 4 Rounds!, September’s Deep, Drooling Kisses and Sex with the Miracle Beautiful Girl, and November’s Mass Bukkake Unleashed! A Soul-Shower to the Face!! Bazooka-Firing Thick, Pent-Up, Aged Semen onto Her Miracle Face! Four titles in her debut year alone.

After that, “miracle” disappears from the titles, and it only comes back in two best-of compilations, in 2025 and 2026.

Two months before that, she had already appeared in an image video, where she was called a “rough gem.”

IDEA POCKET went 8 months without a new release

She didn’t stop working during those 8 months. New titles came out in October, November, December, February, and April, all of them from Attackers. In January, IDEA POCKET puts out 1 title, but it’s a best-of compilation packed with already-shot footage, not a new shoot.

Attackers splits its output across sub-labels — Shiyaaku, Otona no Drama, in mad, and Ryuubaku.

One title, released on December 6, opens like this:

One night on a business trip ended up in someone else’s BEST

Beyond the Two Main Studios, Other Names Appear Too

Sorting her 210 solo-credit titles by source, IDEA POCKET accounts for 103 and ATTACKERS for 57. Those two alone add up to 160, which leaves 50.

The largest share of that remainder belongs to Madonna, with 21 titles. It began in November 2022 and continues today. Married-woman roles dominate, and the settings stay close to everyday life — the room next door, a business trip destination.

An inconsiderate neighbor throwing loud drinking parties from the crack of dawn — that’s the kind of rundown apartment I live in, a college student with no future in sight. One day, in the middle of my hopeless, idle days, Tsumugi-san moved into the room next door. A beautiful woman with a faintly seductive air. And she started coming on to me over every little thing…

Here again she’s called “Tsumugi-san” — no surname, just as when she played the sister-in-law. The relationship comes first, as the neighbor who’s just moved in, and the name arrives as its content.

PREMIUM’s Elegance label put out 4 titles, concentrated between May and August 2025. Teacher, sister-in-law, female boss, mistress — the role is different in each of the four. They cluster only in the three months leading up to her move.

REbecca has 8 image videos, titled sequentially from 『Tsumugi1』 through 『Tsumugi8』. Released from 2017 to 2026, roughly one a year. There’s no character name or setting here — the title is simply her name.

VR accounts for 10 titles. The first was an IDEA POCKET release in September 2018, and she has since appeared under ATTACKERS’ VR label as well. None of these are among the six titles this article covers in detail.

Compilations and best-of releases number 14. The first came in December of her debut year, titled 『AKARI TSUMUGI 1st BEST: Crystal』. A compilation was already assembled just nine months after her debut.

With Glasses and Name Tag Still On

This one title has 12 reviews, averaging 4.92. The count is too small to talk about rankings, but among new solo-exclusive releases, this is the only one to break 4.9.

Called a “Transfer” Twice

She wears a green sleeveless top, her hair tied back. Backlit, only her face fills the frame, the corners of her mouth go up, her eyes toward the camera. This is a frame from her first release after the transfer.

2025 wasn’t the first time it was written that she had transferred. In November 2022, while IDEA POCKET kept releasing her titles monthly, another studio declared this in a title:

That S-class solo actress makes a shock transfer to Madonna!!

“Shock transfer” is right there in the title. But IDEA POCKET’s releases didn’t stop after this either. Her solo titles at Madonna went on to reach 21, running in parallel with IDEA POCKET’s 103.

A Madonna release from July 2024 carries the phrase “exclusive beautiful-face actress” in its title. During the very period she was exclusive to IDEA POCKET, another studio called her exclusive and wrote that she had transferred. Both were labels stuck on her.

Three years later, a second one comes. This time, her affiliation actually moved.

IDEA POCKET’s last release came out on October 10, 2025. The transfer was announced on November 15. The first release from FALENO star streamed on December 18.

Nobody saw this transfer coming, and yet it happened.

Industry shockwave!! She heads to a new stage

Then on February 6, 2026, IDEA POCKET released “Tsumugi Akari: The Miracle and the Trajectory of 8 Years Exclusive, IDEAPOCKET COMPLETE BEST.” All 87 titles, 46 hours, a 12-disc set. It came 50 days after the first post-transfer release streamed. The send-off arrived after the transfer, not before.

Line up the labels stuck on her across nine years: miracle, beautiful girl, Aki, Tsumugi-san, librarian, slut, and two transfers. Both who did the sticking and what got stuck were different every time.

Of the 6 titles watched so far, 5 have a frame where the corners of her mouth go up while she’s being pursued. The exception is a 2019 business-trip title, where instead every frame lines up on eyes closed, mouth open.
